๐ Getting Started
What ages is KidsNova for?
Roughly 3 to 8 years old. During setup you enter the child's age, and the app tunes lesson difficulty to match. Younger children lean on the spoken instructions; older ones start reading along.
Do I need an account or the internet?
No to both. There is no sign-up, no login and no email required. Everything โ lessons, games, art, sounds โ ships inside the app, so it works fully offline, including in aeroplane mode.
Is it really free? Are there ads?
KidsNova is completely free with no advertising and no in-app purchases. There is nothing to buy and nothing to unlock with money.
Can I set up more than one child?
Yes. Go to Parent Zone โ Settings โ Profiles to add another child. Each child keeps their own progress, stars, streak and daily goal.
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ง Parent Zone
How do I get into the Parent Zone?
Tap the parent icon in the top-right of the home screen. You'll be asked for your 4-digit PIN, or โ if you haven't set one โ a simple multiplication question a young child is unlikely to answer.
How do I set or change the parent PIN?
Parent Zone โ Settings โ Set a parent PIN (or "Change parent PIN"). You can also remove it, which falls back to the multiplication gate.
I forgot my PIN.
For your child's privacy the PIN is stored only on your device and we have no way to look it up or reset it remotely. Clearing the app's storage (Android โ Settings โ Apps โ KidsNova โ Storage โ Clear storage) removes the PIN, but it also erases all profiles and progress. There is no other reset path.
How do I set a daily time limit?
Parent Zone โ Settings โ Daily goal. This sets a target number of minutes per day; the dashboard then shows progress toward it. It is a gentle goal and celebration, not a hard lock that shuts the app off.
What does the dashboard show?
Minutes learned, lessons completed, stars earned, streaks, and per-world progress โ deliberately focused on what was learned rather than screen time alone.
๐ค Microphone & Sound
Why does the app ask for the microphone?
Only for optional pronunciation practice: the child says a word and the app checks whether it matches. No audio is ever recorded, saved or uploaded. If you decline the permission, the microphone step is simply hidden and everything else works.
The voice (Novi) isn't speaking.
Novi uses your device's text-to-speech engine. Check that:
- The device is not on silent and the media volume is up.
- Sound and voice are enabled in Parent Zone โ Settings.
- A TTS engine is installed and has a language pack: Android โ Settings โ System โ Languages & input โ Text-to-speech output. Tap "Install voice data" if prompted.
Speech recognition says it's unavailable.
Some devices ship without a speech recogniser, or have it disabled. KidsNova checks for it at startup and hides the microphone step when it's missing โ this is expected, not a bug, and no lesson is blocked by it.
๐ ๏ธ Troubleshooting
The app is slow or stutters.
Close other running apps and make sure the device has some free storage. KidsNova is animation-heavy by design; on very old hardware some celebrations may run less smoothly.
Progress disappeared.
Progress is stored only on the device. It is lost if the app was uninstalled, its storage was cleared, or the device was reset. Because we never receive a copy, we cannot restore it โ this is the trade-off for an app that collects nothing.
The daily reminder isn't arriving.
Check that notifications are allowed (Android โ Settings โ Apps โ KidsNova โ Notifications) and that the reminder is on in Parent Zone โ Settings. Aggressive battery-saver modes on some devices can also delay scheduled reminders.
The screen looks cut off or too zoomed.
KidsNova is portrait-only by design and clamps very large system font sizes to protect its layouts. If text still overlaps, try reducing display size in Android โ Settings โ Display โ Display size.
๐ Privacy & Data
What data do you collect?
None. No accounts, no analytics, no ads, no trackers, no servers. The child's name, age, avatar and progress stay on your device. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
How do I delete everything?
Parent Zone โ Settings lets you delete a profile or reset all data, and uninstalling removes everything. Step-by-step instructions are on the Delete Data page.
